Scholarships are paid in the second semester of freshman year. Winners are responsible for sending verification from their school that they are enrolled full time for the spring semester.

Requirements
- Lived in South Dakota for at least the past two years.
- Attending a two- or four-year college, university, or accredited post-high-school institution starting next fall.
- Complete the Scholarship Application with a cover letter, golf resume, extracurricular activity document, transcript, essay and references.
Screening of applicants
A committee of SDGA Junior Golf Foundation directors selects the winners. Applicants must be a participant (or dependent of a participant) in SDGA events, or an active First Tee — South Dakota participant — this is given high priority.
Applicants are also judged on participation in golf at the local club level, high school academic achievement, First Tee volunteerism, participation in non-golf activities, and leadership, honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
